Between 2005 and 2016, the Michele Ferrero Entrepreneurial Project in Cameroon concentrated its social and humanitarian initiatives in support of local government education authorities engaged in the improvement of school infrastructure in nursery and primary schools.
In October 2016, new classrooms were made available to children and young people at the Gado-Badzere refugee camp in the south-east of the country, on the border with the Central African Republic. The camp is home to thousands of people - mainly from the Central African Republic - who have taken refuge in Cameroon to escape the war raging in their country.
Among these were over 2,000 children between the ages of 6 and 8, half of whom did not attend compulsory schooling.
The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR, an agency already awarded two Nobel Peace Prizes).
Ferrero in Cameroon
Cameroon is the cradle where the first Entrepreneurial Project named after Michele Ferrero was born in 2005, which operated until October 2016.
The Group is currently present in the country with its own commercial offices in the capital Yaoundé and Douala.
Social Activities
Support to the schooling of refugee children in Cameroon
In 2014, the construction of a new school block at the Cité Verte nursery school in the capital Yaoundé and the renovation of the entire school complex were finalised.
The project secured the entire school building complex, originally in poor condition, restoring decent sanitary, hygienic and environmental conditions for over 200 children and their teachers.
Potential sources of transmission of waterborne diseases, such as malaria, represented by stagnant rainwater, sewers and toilets without septic tanks, were also removed.
Since October 2014, 100 children and their teachers can work and play in the new school block in comfortable, more spacious and better equipped classrooms.
In 2010, the pediatric department of the Saint Martin de Porrès hospital in Yaoundé was strengthened by financing hospital materials and equipment.
